All About Ted!

Early Life

Ted Hanlon was born in Cheyenne, Wyoming on January 6th, 1959. He is 63.

Ted was raised in Laramie County on the outskirts of the city of Cheyenne. He attended Arp Elementary School, Johnson Jr. High School, and East High School. He graduated from East High in 1977. He was an A student, a member of the Debate Team, and a member of the Rifle Club. He took second place in Wyoming State Cross Examination Debate in 1977. He was the Wyoming Class B Smallbore Rifle Champion in 1976 and 1977.

Ted’s family owns a small ranch in Carbon County, south of Encampment. He spent summers and weekends there until he graduated High School.

Education

Ted graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 1981. He continued to excel in academics and debate.

Early Career

Ted started his career with Marathon Oil as a summer intern in the South Coles Levee Unit Gas Plant in Bakersfield California. After graduating, he began working for Marathon in their research center in Littleton, Colorado. He moved to Cody Wyoming to oversee a field research project in 1983 and transitioned to field roles when the research project was finished. He worked as a plant foreman, workover foreman, production engineer, and drilling engineer in his career with Marathon. 

Ted left Marathon to take a process engineering position with Coastal Chem in Cheyenne, Wyoming in 1990. He was promoted to superintendent in 1995 and remained in that position until he left Coastal Chem in 2002.

Ted started High Plains Solar Wind, LLC in 2002, installing small solar and wind power systems for remote homes. During that time, he helped to draft the Net Metering bill which is the basis for the Net Metering law that allows Wyoming homeowners to sell excess solar and wind power back to the utility.

Consulting Career

In 2005 Ted began engineering and technical training consulting for refineries and chemical plants. He worked for several consulting companies from 2005 to 2013 including Technical Training Services, KBC Advanced Technologies, and Peoplecore, Inc.

In 2013, Ted started his own company, Hanlon Process Consulting, LLC. His clients are all multinational chemical manufacturers. That business continues today.

Personal Life

Ted and Freddie have four children and three grandchildren. When they aren’t playing with grandchildren, they like paddle boarding and fly fishing.
